A reader posted a comment: ”At 392 degrees F silicone mats release trace amounts of formaldehyde. Higher the heat, higher the amounts of formaldehyde.” Though I continually am searching for scientific data on the health effects of silicone, this was news to me. But having the clue that silicone releases formaldehyde, I was able to find information on this.

Polyester Versus Polyethylene

Hi Debra, You have mentioned that polyethylene plastic provides a good vapor barrier. I am confused. On the internet it says that polyester is the name the textile industry uses for polyethylene or PET. In that case, polyester fiberfill should have the same saftey as polyethylene plastic cover, no? also, does polyethylene not contain phthalates and antimony?
